Seasonal Commentary: Most of our updates start with an idea from one of the team. An artist had this idea to create a Living Ship, using our procedural ship system to essentially piece together a huge variety of space whales. We had a lot of fun teasing this update by putting a mysterious egg in the Quicksilver shop and watching players puzzle over it. This was sort of the beginning of teasing updates with emojis. We really just enjoyed focusing on the work, and kind of ignored social media. What's the minimum we could get away with posting? A single emoji we joked - but turns out it was just enough! This update also saw the first version of deep-space objects, which were spawned as random encounters when the player engaged pulse drive, rather than existing as persistent locations in space.
