Seasonal Commentary

The procedurally-generated creatures in No Man's Sky are an ongoing source of joy. They still make us laugh. The team still sends screenshots and videos around when we find a particularly beautiful, surprising or funny animal. We wanted to add more ways for players to interact with them, to make them feel more connected and alive. The design for Companions went through several iterations. At one point, the concept revolved around collecting DNA samples from wild creatures to grow new life in a laboratory setting. But in playtesting we found it was more satisfying to hunt down and adopt a pet, similar to hunting down the perfect ship. We love seeing players sharing images of their weird and wonderful pets.
